Glamping
Tucked into the alpine landscape of the Alta Ski Resort, this modern mountain cabin is a study in balance between rugged natural surroundings and refined architectural form. Its steel and concrete base anchors the home into the steep terrain, while expansive panes of glass frame uninterrupted views of the Wasatch peaks. A cantilevered upper level, clad in warm cedar soffits and supported by structural steel beams, extends outward to create sheltered outdoor living and a dramatic floating effect. Inside, soaring ceilings with exposed steel beams and full-height stone fireplaces celebrate both strength and warmth, while an open floor plan allows light to cascade through from multiple exposures. Materials were chosen to echo the surrounding environment—stacked stone, wood-grain cabinetry, and textured finishes provide tactile depth against a clean architectural shell. Large sliding glass walls blur the line between indoors and out, connecting the great room to expansive decks designed for gathering after a day on the slopes or trails. Details like a custom blackened wood console and contemporary artwork by Salt Lake artist Havoc Hendriks root the interiors in place, marrying craftsmanship with mountain modern sensibility. This home is at once resilient and inviting—a retreat that honors its alpine site through honest materials, bold architectural gestures, and a seamless integration with the wilderness beyond.

Mountain Living
Designed with both function and connection in mind, the kitchen and dining spaces seamlessly balance modern lines with family-friendly warmth. The custom dining nook was tailored by K. Rocke Design to maximize seating within the footprint, creating an intimate yet spacious setting for meals and gatherings. A long built-in bench anchors the space, paired with sculptural chairs and a bold contemporary light fixture for a mix of comfort and style.
The open kitchen layout is equally thoughtful—light oak cabinetry and marble surfaces set a refined tone while offering ample storage and workspace. The expansive island doubles as a prep area and casual dining spot, encouraging both everyday family interaction and effortless entertaining. Large windows flood the space with natural light, reinforcing its role as the center of the home: a place where family and friends can cook, dine, and connect together.

Forest of Tile
The lower bathroom features a bold patterned pattern inspired by a walk through trees. The lines of the tiles representing the positive and negative space interrupted by branches and other natural elements.
The guest level was designed with efficiency and comfort in mind, transforming compact spaces into highly functional retreats. Each guest room features custom built-ins that maximize storage and reduce clutter while keeping the design clean and inviting. Thoughtful finishes—like textured wallcoverings, integrated shelving, and layered bedding—add warmth and character, making even the smallest rooms feel elevated and complete.
Bunk rooms extend this approach with space-saving layouts tailored for groups or families. Integrated ladders and durable frames create a sense of structure and fun, while individual niches and lighting provide privacy within the shared sleeping areas.
Adjacent to the guest rooms, a ski storage area offers organization without sacrificing style. Open cubbies, baskets, and lockers are designed to keep gear accessible and contained, ensuring that the transition from mountain adventure to home comfort is seamless. By blending smart storage with cozy, well-appointed guest quarters, the design proves that even the most compact spaces can deliver both beauty and function.
